Reformer pilates, also known as machine pilates, if a form of Pilates performed on half bed like frames that consist of a flat carriage which rolls back and forth on wheels. The speed in which this carriage moves is controlled by spring tension. Reformer pilates differs from mat Pilates as it predominantly involves exercises that require pushing, pulling and control of the carriage. This form of exercises is generally more intense and dynamic than mat pilates.
Our reformer classes are different to those of other studios. At Kinetic, our reformer classes are not considered ‘PT on a reformer’. Instead, we offer a more low tempo class which focuses on technique whilst still challenging you physically and mentally. We stick to the principles of Pilates and ensure you perform exercises correctly and safely to avoid injury.
Mat Pilates is very different to reformer Pilates in that it is performed equipment-free, with movements adapted to work with just your body and the floor. We also use small apparatus’ help increase resistance to continually challenge your muscles. Our mat classes will give you an understanding of the basic movements behind Pilates and allow you to take exercises away to replicate them at home.
